Chlorella is a green, single cell freshwater algae. More than 20 vitamins and minerals are found in chlorella, including iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorous, Beta Carotene, vitamins B1, B2, B5, B6 and B12 (more than in beef liver), biotin, inositol, folic acid, plus vitamins C, E and K. Chlorella also contains Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. Chlorella is an important source of Vitamin B12 (Watanabe, 2002), a vitamin normally originating in animal proteins and often deficient in vegetarians and vegans.
Vitamin B12 can contribute to the following:
